How
to Troubleshoot the 'Good IP/No Internet' Issue
 |
This
applies to Win 9x and ME computers that are pulling 137 IP addresses
on renew, and can ping an IP address, yet cannot get any internet
page, instant messaging, or e-mail. The computer seems
to have no network function at all. This process requires
a registry modification. If you’re uncomfortable, ask
for the assistance of a professional staff member. |
First,
ensure all TCP/IP settings are correct. Attempt to re-install
TCP/IP as a first step. Second, check to see whether spyware
and adware are present in the Add/Remove Programs box in the control
panel. If yes, remove them and reboot. If the
problem has not been resolved, then follow this procedure:
Back
up the current registry
Modify the registry
Uninstall dial-up networking
Uninstall tcp/ip for the network
adapter
Re-install dial-up networking
Re-install tcpi/ip for the network
adapter
Test the connection
