Hello, my room mate and I have a couple applications like Limewire and a paid for movie download service and neither of them have connections and are unable to download anything at more than 1kb/s... Web browsers and instant messaging works fine so I don't know what the problem is. I tried taking down firewalls, running the programs as an administrator (we've both got vista) as well as playing around with windows' connection settings and the applications' connection settings. I'm assuming the block is due to the modem or router or ports or something so I'd appreciate any troubleshooting advice on the matter. Thanks a lot.

The slowness you experience with certain applications is most likely due to those applications having a bandwith cap shared between all the students in the ResHalls. Networking may (depending on the application having trouble) be able to tweak the filters to give you better results. They will probably ask you to be more specific about your paid movie download service to see if they can loosen those bandwith restrictions.
