Important information regarding recent announcements from Apple, Lenovo, and Dell about their Laptop Batteries

To the College Community:

In recent weeks both Dell Computer Corporation and Apple Computer Corporation have issued recall notices for certain production lots of batteries used in their laptop computers. Some of these batteries, manufactured by SONY, have defects that could cause them to overheat. We have already reviewed many laptops to determine whether they have batteries covered under the recall, and to date have found none. If you would like to do the check yourself, you can visit the following websites:

For Dell Computers: https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/

For Apple Computers: https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/

Again, this only covers certain production lots of batteries for certain models of laptop computers. If you have a battery covered under recall, there are instructions at the above websites on how to obtain a replacement unit. If you have a laptop and would like help with checking its production serial numbers, or have any other questions about this recall, please call the Help Desk at 436-4567.
