Connecting Windows Vista to Dial-up

These instructions will guide you through the configuration of Windows Vista to connect to Oneonta dial-up.

Windows Vista - Configuring for Oneonta Dial-up Access
Use the instructions below to connect to Oneonta Dial-up with Windows Vista.
Setting up your dial-up connection
1.Click the StartMenu button.
2.Then select Control Panel .
3.On the left hand side click on Classic View to display all the icons in the Control Panel. Then double click on the Network and Sharing Center icon
4.On the left hand side of the Networking and Sharing Center click on Set up a connection or network.


5.The process will ask you to choose a connection option. Click on Set up a dial-up connection and click Next.


6.A list of modems will appear. Choose the modem you want to connect with. If no modems appear, either your computer does not have a modem or your modem is not installed properly.
7.You will be asked to type in the information for your Internet Service Provider. In this example, you are trying to access SUNY Oneontas Dialup Service. Type in the following information in the appropriate boxes:
oDial-up phone number: 376-4000
oUser name: Enter your Oneonta Username (i.e. publicjq)
oPassword: Enter the password associated with your Oneonta user account (your e-mail password). Ifyou do not want to enter the password every time you connect, select Remember this password
oConnection name: Enter a name you will remember this connection by (i.e. Oneonta PPP or Oneonta Dialup).


8.Click Create. Your computer should now connect to the Oneonta Dial-up service.
9.Once successfully connected, click on Browse the Internet now. Your default internet browser will launch.
10.To connect in the future, go to Start > Connect to. Your list of connections will show up. Choose the connection you just created and click Connect.
oIf you are using the 'Classic Start Menu,' you will not see Connect to in the Start Menu, select Start > Settings > Network Connections. Your new connection will be in the window that pops up afterward.
