Your SUNY Oneonta Computer User Account

Information for Faculty/Staff

Once your account is created, here is what you can do!

1. An Oneonta email account. Once created, your email address will be your username@oneonta.edu. Then, simply go to http://mail.oneonta.edu and put in your username/password (just your username, not your whole email address!). This will allow you to use our web mail called OWA (Outlook Web Access) to check your email. If you would like to have Outlook set up on your campus computer, please contact the Help Desk at x4567 to set up an appointment.

2. An Active Directory Account. This account will allow you to log into the Oneonta domain on your office computer and to log onto computers in the general purpose computer labs. When your account is created, a W: drive (to create web pages on our web server) and a P: drive (to store documents on our server) are also created for you. When you log into a computer in the general purpose computer labs, the drives for your W: drive and for your P: drive will appear under My Computer. When you save a document in the labs to the “My Documents” folder, it’s automatically saved to your P: drive! YourActive Directory account, your W: drive and your P: drive are set up with the same username and password as your email account.

3. Your W: Drive. The path or address for your web folder will be: http://employees.oneonta.edu/yourusername. If you wish to map a network drive on your on-campus computer to your web folder, the path is \employeesyourusername$. If you need help doing this or using FTP to access your web folder from off-campus, please contact the Help Desk at x4567 for assistance.

4. Your P: Drive. The P: drive is available for you to save your course documents and any other important files so it is safely on our server as opposed to floppy disks and such. You can access your P: drive from off campus (or on-campus) by opening the web and going to http://joust.oneonta.edu. If you wish to map a network drive to your web folder on your on-campus computer, the path is \joustyourusername$ . When prompted for a username/password, make sure you put in oneontayourusername and then your password. Take a moment to read the documentation on the web page so you can correctly save and retrieve files from your P: drive.

TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

Once the email and active directory accounts are created, you may change your password by going to http://www.oneonta.edu/useradmin and click on “Change Password”. When you click Change Password, you will be prompted for the "old" password, and then for a new password. Make sure your new password is at least 6 characters long, any combination of letters and numbers. Try to avoid any words that are commonplace. You can add a number at the end of the word to make it more unique. When you change your password at that site, it changes both your email and active directory passwords. If you forget your password, please contact the Help Desk at x4567 to reset your password.
