About Us

The College at Oneonta has long recognized the importance of computers for students in our increasingly technological society. That's why the College is leading the SUNY system in making computer technology part of every student's education. Our faculty incorporates technology into their teaching at a far higher rate than the national average, using the Internet, computer-based classrooms, e-mail, and web pages. STI Survey Info Through our computer labs in every academic building and residence hall, we ensure that all students have access to computers that will meet their academic needs. Our robust campus-wide network enables students to use the web for everything from conducting research to registering for classes.
The following are a few of the areas that help to define Oneonta as a leader in the area of technology:

  • The College at Oneonta has more bandwidth to the Internet (300 Megabits per Second) than many other SUNY Colleges
  • High-speed data connections (Ethernet) are available to every residence hall student.
  • Wireless networking is available in all academic buildings, residence hall lounges, and eight of the fifteen residential buildings have full building access. All residential buildings will have full building access by Fall 2007.
  • Through the Milne Library website, users can connect to over 100 information databases, numerous electronic books and journals, and the on-line catalog of print and multimedia materials.
  • Through our Local Area Network and the Internet, students can use Intranet services to register for classes and housing, complete coursework, check grades, pay phone bills, and complete many other tasks.
  • The College provides shared network storage to each student. Accessible from any computer, this storage significantly reduces the possibility of losing important information.
  • The College provides nearly 700 computers on campus for students’ use, the vast majority of which are less than two years old. Our student-computer ratio continues to exceed the national average.
  • The computer labs in our 15 residence halls are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • The College offers many technology training opportunities for students, including computer-based training, seminars, workshops, and classroom instruction.
  • Technical support is only a phone call away. The Information Technology Help Desk is available on average 93 hours per week during the academic year.
  • 94% of classrooms located throughout the campus are technology-enhanced, with projection and audio capabilities, as well as computer and/or video equipment installed.
  • Technology Instruction Program for Students ( TIPS ) -provides help desk style support for students’ computing application needs.
  • Free E-Mail, Web hosting, Anti-virus software, and SPAM filtering is available to the entire campus community.
  • Free dialup Internet access (56K) is available to all off-campus students.
